Rob Mayes is an American actor, musician, and model. He is best known for starring as the title character in the 2012 horror comedy film John Dies at the End. He portrayed Tommy Nutter in the short-lived comedy-drama television series Jane by Design.　　Mayes was raised in Pepper Pike, Ohio by his mother Diana, a Lithuanian. He started modeling when he was five years old.[1] His brother, Alex, was born ten years after him.　　After graduating from University School in 2003, Mayes attended Dulwich College in London and toured Europe with a singing group. After the September 11 attacks, he decided to pursue a military career. He attended the United States Naval Academy—he was also accepted into the United States Military Academy—and planned to become a Navy SEAL. He left approximately 18 months later, citing desensitization and feeling like he was "becoming something [he] didn't want to be." As he was unable to listen to music at the Academy, he began writing songs. He released a seven-track pop album called Glimpses of Truth　　Two weeks after moving to New York City in 2007, Mayes was hired for a one-episode role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2008, he played the lead role in the MTV musical television film The American Mall. The film follows his character, Joey, who falls in love with a girl working in a mall's music shop.　　Mayes had guest starring roles on Cold Case, Valentine, Bones, and Medium and played the lead role in the 2010 remake of Ice Castles.　　In 2012, he auditioned for the role of John in John Dies at the End without reading the script, and was cast. The film premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
